Frequently Asked Questions?

  • Where do we go the first day?  On your child's first day please park your car and walk your child into the back yard area or pool area depending on their specific age. Please locate the table for each age groups check-in. There will be signs alerting you where to go. A staff member will check you in and introduce you to your child's two instructors. For details please visit our “Drop off & Pick Up” tab under PROGRAM DETAILS.

  • What does my child need to bring? Have your child wear a bathing suit and shoes.  Pack a bag with a towel, sunscreen, water bottle (NO FOOD OR JUICE) and goggles are optional.  On days where it is overcast skies or raining, please pack an extra towel and a sweat shirt and sweat pants. For details please visit “Inclement Weather” tab under PROGRAM DETAILS.

  • Will the office call or email to confirm my child's enrollment?  Yes, you will receive a general email confirmation once your registration form is processed and complete. This confirmation will not be specific to your dates but will confirm that you are enrolled for the requested weeks on your registration form. If your requested weeks were full when we received your registration packet, we will call you to reschedule weeks via the phone. You will then be given a verbal confirmation of your newly scheduled sessions and you will still receive the general email confirmation that your registration form is complete and processed.

  • What if my child has food allergies or any known medical conditions? If your child has food/bee allergies, history of seizures, asthma, diabetes, and/or any other medical conditions: please visit our “STUDENT MEDICAL” tab for details information and required documentation.

  • Is a snack provided or do I need to pack one?  No, please do not pack any snacks.  There is no food during your child's session. We are food free during camp operating hours. Only full day students should pack lunch.

  • Can you accommodate children with special needs?  Yes, please call our office to further discuss your child's specific needs and visit our “Students with Special Needs” tab under PROGRAM OVERVIEW for more details.

  • What if my child is afraid of water?  Many children attending Silton, especially younger children, have a fear of water.  Our instructors will work at a slow pace to allow your child to gain the confidence they need to learn to swim.  The instructors will be very patient and work with each child individually to help them overcome their fear of water or learning to swim.

  • What happens if it rains?  We will swim in the rain as long as there is no thunder and/or lightening.  The students will spend their out of pool time in our indoor climate controlled movie rooms.  If there is torrential weather, please check out website for any daily cancellations, even thought this rarely happens.

  • How are students placed?  All students, except for any competitive swimmers, are grouped by age, not ability. Students are grouped by age with two instructors and an average of 10 students per class. If you are interested in a more advanced class, we offer competitive classes for students ages 10 and older.

  • Can I request that my child be in class with a friend?  Yes.  We will do our best to accommodate any friend request.  Please limit all requests to 1 friend.

  • How is your staff hired?   Our staff are interviewed by our Director Danielle Nestler.  All staff 18 and older are required to have a NJ State background check. Our staff are hired as substitute instructors at first.  After gaining experience and training for a summer or two, they are moved into a full time position as a junior staff instructor.  After a few years as a junior staff, they are eligible to move into a senior staff instructor position where they are responsible for training a junior staff and being the head teacher in a specific age group.
